Brett Harwin of Frame2Finish is the best general contractor in town. My husband and I unhesitatingly recommend him. Before we bought our current house, we remodeled our prior home in Cheviot Hills four times and, as my Welsh husband said about each contractor, "he was glad to see the back of them" when they left, with the notable exception of our kitchen designer and the one contractor who did a good job, but passed away before we bought our current home.

 

When we moved to Bel Air, we were faced with an unexpected total house renovation and remodel. All systems needed replacing, there was no insulation, the mold behind the existing bathroom finishes was extensive, to name a few of the unexpected problems facing us. We were enlarging the main house so we needed new foundations and walls, new heating and plumbing, a new roof (we added solar panels), stone facade, landscaping, and the enlargement of 1940's small closets.

 

We also redesigned the kitchen. The guest house needed even more work. Brett was efficient, cost effective and extremely helpful. His crew is always on time, his subcontractors are experienced, provide excellent service, and have been with Frame2Finish for many years. One of the unexpected benefits of hiring Frame2Finish is their continuing and much appreciated presence in our lives.

We were first time home buyers and wanted to find a house that needed some work. We met Brett and instantly hit it off with him. He was kind enough to look at our home inspection report and work with us to come up with a plan to turn this house into a home.

During the course of the past 50 years, I have worked with dozens of contractors doing a variety of projects ranging from teardowns to remodeling kitchens and bathrooms. I have never used the same contractor twice nor have I ever recommended one ---- until now. Brett Harwin, owner of Frame2Finish, and his team are simply amazing.

At the end of 2020 a huge pine tree (with a 40-foot canopy) fell on our home, severely damaging our dining and living areas (approximately 1000 sf). We contracted with Brett who assessed the extent of the damage and worked hand in hand with our insurance company to repair our residence as quickly and efficiently as possible. We needed major re-construction: everything from a new roof including some new rafters, to structural engineering of the walls, to replacement of drywall, new stucco, painting, and the list goes on.

My wife and I (along with our two dogs) lived in our home during the entire construction process (the pandemic complicated matters). Brett’s team sealed off the damaged area with a temporary wall protecting us from most of the noise and all of the dust and debris.

 

The workers were extremely conscientious, courteous, competent, and neat. They all followed the ABCs of cooking—Always Be Cleaning! Can you imagine a construction site being called immaculate?  They went way beyond the call of duty, taking extreme pride in their workmanship and cognizant of the fact they were in our home. They didn’t merely do what was necessary, they made other repairs that our 70-year-old home needed.

 

Brett’s attention to detail was clear in the manner in which he approached the project and in the vetting of his vendors, who were as conscientious and professional as Brett’s team.

 

The work was completed in a timely manner and our home looks better than ever. Brett kept us apprised on a regular basis of each step of the process. He listened to our concerns, took notes, noticed additional items that needed attention, and was highly responsive.

In 2017, we decided to update our home. Our project included a remodel of a kitchen, bath and bedroom and a full renovation of the front and backyards. All had to be completed while we remained on the property.

 

Every construction project has hiccups, especially when it's a remodel of a 30's bungalow in Santa Monica. However, with the team of designers, project managers and Frame2Finish all working together, the project came in very close to budget and time and may have, if it were not for the change orders I created during construction.

 

From beginning to end, the general contractor, Brett Harwin, was professional, focused and goal oriented. Days before construction began, Brett respectfully said to me, "If you're not ready to start Monday morning, tell me now."

 

A successful project is not only about leaving the client happy and excited about the space they will occupy, whether it's a workspace or a home. A successful project is also about the process. Not only is the crew incredibly respectful, clean and organized, but the crew and subs are knowledgeable, dedicated and understanding of the expectations set by the team. They were always on time and conscientious of the occupied space, neighborhood and our family.
